Description
The Pamola is a magical bird, of which many Avaltan legends are written around. It is rumoured that the snowfall in the Northern mountains is caused by these birds, and that with each beat of their wings, a potential blizzard brews. Their wings are translucent, giving the appearance of being made of ice. The feathers are a light blue in color, growing lighter toward the tips. Wild Pamola tend to be quite timid, despite being a predatory bird, as they are more of an ambush hunter. Even if tamed, they are hard to keep due to their extremely low body temperature.
The underside of their large wingspan has patterns of snowflakes, differing by each and every bird. They remain similar in size to the Phoenix and Thunderbird, a wingspan of around 6 feet, and around 3 feet in length. Their talons look to be made of an azure ice, and are exceptionally sharp. The bird is capable of transforming into a form of whipping winds, and blistering cold ice. If the creature is killed in this form, it will burst into a frozen statue in the pose it had died, allowing it to revive itself.
Distribution
Rare. The Pamola is native to the mountains of Ardemor and Adelona. They will not often be found in groups of more than three, where they are very protective of one another. They are also known to adopt wild younglings of their own kind, should they find them alone.
Habitat
They can be found wherever the snow is heaviest, travelling around the Northern regions to hunt.
Diet
As a bird of prey, they often hunt during the day, somewhat disguise by the colors of the sky and clouds. They mostly hunt Northern rabbits and mice.
Relations
Docile though timid, these birds mostly stay away from people, and thus are difficult to tame. They must be raised from a young age.
Mechanics
- Able to turn itself into a magical miniature blizzard, similar to how phoenix engulf themselves in flames.
- Can revive itself from after death in the form of an ice statue.
- Intelligent
- Can be tamed from a young age, though extremely similar to a phoenix in such.
Material Properties
- The talons can be used for making small knives, working similarly to True Ice.
- The feathers of a Pamola can be used as an additive for Hydromancy and Erebomancy.
Alchemical Properties
- The tears of a Pamola can be used to destroy forms of previous healing. If a tear is placed on a wound that had been closed via any form of mana, aura or shakti means, it destroys the magic, reopening the wound if it has been done within 2 OOC hours. This can be refined to a further 24 OOC hours with alchemy.
