Origin
The language of the Fey has much in common with Elven being that Fey were the predecessors to the Elves. While Fey and Elven are equally beautiful in fluency, Fey is a more complex language that evolved from single-syllable utterances to fluid sentences including body language. The early versions of Fey writings were carved into rocks and tended to be pictures rather than text. The latest scriptures by the Fey are written in arcane script. As Fey became more plentiful in population, they also grew to become more social creatures, resulting in a language evolution.
While in the beginning Fey used brief utterances and eccentric motions to communicate among small groups, most particularly family members, the language quickly evolved with the creation of communities, Kingdoms, and Empires. To accommodate for expanding Fey population and varying abilities of the Fey (with consideration to the Deaf), the language frequently included hand gestures in combination with spoken words. The magical capabilities of the Fey also played a role in their language development, manipulation of essence being included in their speech patterns to produce syllables more elegantly. This results in the language being considerably difficult to replicate. After the Fey became corrupted, many dropped the magical incorporation and hand motions. Some Fey abandoned language altogether, reverting to snobbish snorts and grunts.
Fey who remain pure and untouched by the spreading corruption are the main people to speak this language, use the gestures, and incorporate essence manipulation.
Description
Fey is an elegant and fluid language that rolls off the tongue and includes subtle hand gestures that emphasize the main idea of what is being said. Most Fey will manipulate magical essence in the sound waves of their speech, distorting the words to give a more attractive and mysterious tone to the language.
Basic Phrases
