Dragon-Sickness is a Shakti-born disease usually contracted via interactions with the dragons of the world. Dragon-Sickness is known for its deceitful symptoms to shamans, due to the increase in Shakti it grants. To the non-shaman, the virus is simple, slowly ripping the soul from the body as the shakti expels the tethers that latch it. Dragon-Sickness can be contracted in a multitude of ways, but mainly is contracted from those in the vicinity of a dragon’s breath attack. Though they may not be hit, the air becomes heavy with the virus, and soon sets into the skin. For shamans, the virus empowers them for the time being, granting them a boost in their reservoir, while it immediately weakens non-shaman. Death is sure to follow for either, as the virus purges the soul from all bodies, shaman or not.
Dragonmarked and Draxgar are effectively immune to this disease, due to their draconic ties.
Treatment
Dragon-Sickness can be cured so long as the Shakti that infected the body is purged. Many have found nullification incantations or even cancellation spells to be effective. Others find themselves bonding with spirits in a hope to save their souls and accustom their body to the presence of Shakti.
Spread
Dragon-Sickness is normally unable to spread person to person, since once they are embedded within their host, they do not leave or attempt to spread out through ordinary means.
Symptoms
- First Sept (1 OOC day): Universal symptoms will immediately affect the infected, causing blurred vision and a burning sensation beneath the skin. Shamans will receive an immediate boost of 5 Shakti.
- Second Sept (2 OOC days): After time has passed, the infected will find that the burning sensation has transitioned to mimic the feeling of the breath attack that inflicted the virus upon them beneath their skin.
- Sand: Itching
- Fire: Burning
- Ice: Chills
- Poison: Numbness
- Sky: Stinging
- First Mense (7 OOC days): The infected will feel their vision to dim, blur, and soon disappear. The iris of the infected becomes completely white. Shamans at this point will have the boost they once felt leave them. They begin to lose connection with their spirit as well, now unable to merge with them.
- Tenth Sept (10 OOC days): At ten septs, the infected will feel their body part from the body, the tethers shattering one by one painfully as the virus sends its final attack to the vessel, effectively killing them.
