Tree (Willow)

Rarity

Legendary

Description

The mana willow is said to be one of the most sought out vessels of power for mages, and those who delve into the arcane, but also one of the most delicate tree's in the realm. Holding an almost pure white wood with no blemishes or spots, this tree is seen as a mysterious power to most who come across them, dependent on their food source of mana, they can grow outstandingly large, with branches curling up around its canopy, with leaves that shine and glow with energy. These leaves can come in a small variety of colors ranging from blues, to purples, and generally light up the area of its inhabitants during the evening hours making it impossible to not witness at night. Beyond that of their appearance, these sacred flora of Vikret can only be found in areas of great power, or energy flow such as leylines, or that of high concentrations of mana. Due to this fact, they can be found anywhere they have access to this food within the realm, regardless if it is within horrible freezing cold, or a drought barren desert.

Despite the beauty of these tree's, they are incredibly fragile, and dangerous to maintain and care for. If this tree feels in anyway threatened, or mistreated, it will lash out at its surroundings by sending its leaves like arcane missiles at the threat, causing the mana within the separated leaves to burst, and cause an arcane explosion, while individually these leaves are not potent, the tree can unify them to cause horrible damage to those who would abuse them, making these flora suitable only for the best of caretakers in places of great power. With this in mind, those who are permitted to collect from the tree, will find themselves with an ever glowing flawless piece of wood, and or a small amount of mana within the leaves. Either of these two items may be used for the crafting of Arcane, or Shamanistic tools if properly managed. The leaves may be used in Alchemy, producing liquid mana from their fibers.

Location

The willow is one of the most scarcely found tree's in the realm, due to their nature of growth and the time it takes for them to fully develop which can average over the period of a few hundred years dependent on the amount of mana within their reach. Due to this fact, the willow can only be found in areas of high magical power, such as leylines, or places of natural arcane abundance. With the added fact that these trees will defend themselves if they feel threatened, it makes them Legendary in rarity.

Development

The blooming of this tree is stated to be one of the most incredible, and rare events one can ever witness, due to its strange appearance, and properties which occur. This event will only occur a few short times during the trees life span of a few thousand years, however should one witness it, they will find themselves seeing a flower of absolute pure arcane energy bloom upon the tree, this flower contains the life source of the mana willow, making it incredibly dense in nature, heavy to most weighing about an apple or so in grams. Yet when this flower breaks away from its holding it will flutter toward the ground, and float above the soil, defiant of all that exists, untouched. This flower will generally never bloom unless it can sense immediate sources of power nearby. Since this is true, it will begin to rot and decay over a period of minutes if a source is not located. Should a mage be close enough during this process, they may offer themselves up as a temporary source of energy until a leyline may be located, and the flower will wrap itself around the mage's arm or leg, drawing that strength into itself, becoming heavier until it is released. If successfully planted in a place of power however, the rewards of such a tree are seen within a few months of its rooting, if given protection and time, it will sprout into its own well of arcane potential. Before it reaches full maturity however, which takes [6 OOC months], this effect will not occur.

Properties

  • This tree is extremely difficult to care for, delicate in nature making it one of the hardest plants to cultivate.
  • The willow will defend its self against attackers or those who attempt to steal from its keeping's, using arcane explosions with its leaves to ward away danger. Cultivated mana willows that are grown and treated with care from a sapling will not do this to their caretaker.
  • The tree has a perfectly smooth surface, almost appearing like marble in its creamy white color, its leaves being shades of blue's and purples.
  • The willow will glow, constantly given it has plenty of food, making it a beacon within the night to surrounding flora and fauna, often making it a suitable home for rare creatures or protectors.
  • Every few hundred years this tree will have the chance to sprout a flower in which will act as its source of reproduction, the flower latching onto the first food source it can manage to find, these trees hate being grouped close to one another, and require high amounts of arcane power to stay well fed and maintained. These trees can only be cultivated by those with extreme skill and care.
  • The rare fruit of the mana willow sprouts once every [6 OOC months], following its full maturity, and makes a maximum of five each time.

Material Properties

  • The wood of this tree can be made into instruments of arcane or shamanistic potential, making them the most suitable tools of casting from wood in the current known world.

Alchemical Properties

  • The leaves of this plant hold about 50 mL of liquid mana, and can be extracted given enough skill in Alchemy.
  • The Rare fruit of this plant can help restore a mage's mana pool by a small amount [25 mana], but only works once every [6 OOC hours].
  • This tree can be tapped for 1,500 ML, or can be cut down and harvested for 2,500 ML.
