Bog Fever is a fungal infection found in wetlands or swamps. There is no specific fungus associated with the infection; Bog Fever is the result of numerous mushroom spores overwhelming the immune system and respiratory system. The infection will almost always begin in the lungs and work its way through the body, focusing towards the brain. Some severe cases have reported the infection attacks the brain first and bypasses the lungs. In the lungs, Bog Fever will cause common yet harmful symptoms, such as fever, chest tightness, coughing, difficulty breathing, sore throat, sneezing, and stuffy nose. After harboring itself in the lungs, the fungus will begin moving to the rest of the body and will cause an infection and inflammation to both the skin of the affected limb, rotting the body from the inside, and aiming itself to the brain. In the most severe cases, frequent seizures are sure to follow after the infection has set in.

Sinnehliv are twice as susceptible to Bog Fever. As such, their symptoms are accelerated to spread twice as fast.

Treatment

Treating Bog Fever is quite the feat for any medical professional. Alchemicals have proven to halt the spread and symptoms, while Biomancy can remove the infection with an early diagnosis. Later stages prove to require the removal and regrowth of limbs to cut the infection off entirely. Any scarring left behind still holds its green tint.

Spread

Bog Fever will often infect those who’ve inhaled it’s spores. However if one was unfortunate to touch a fungus that carried the disease, it will enter through the exposed skin, making its way to the lungs soon after. Those with Bog Fever are not contagious, barring sinnehliv. Should a sinnehliv contract Bog Fever, in later stages their skin will inherit the properties of the same fungus that the infection thrives on.

Symptoms

  • First Sept (1 OOC day): Depending on the case, early symptoms appear in two forms. Should the infected inhale the fungus, they will find the night filled with coughing, difficulty breathing, and possibly even vomiting. Should it enter through the skin, they will note a shooting pain as the infection grows through them. Green moss-like scarring showing by morning within the affected area.
  • Third Sept (3 OOC days): At this point, all symptoms converge as the infection has already reached the lungs either way. The victims coughing has become dry, painful, but still bearable. If a limb has already been infected, the scarring has likely made its way across the body, the limb itself numbing, yet still functional.
  • Sixth Sept (6 OOC days): After a near mense has passed, the infected will notice a rapid decline. Dehydration, dizziness, and vomiting have become frequent. The infection has spread likely across the victim’s chest and shoulders, focused around the neck. Their vision becomes blurred, along with their sense of taste and smell soon disappearing soon after. Sleeping through the night becomes near impossible due to the assault of symptoms. At this point, Biomancy is required for treatment.
  • Twelfth Sept (12 OOC days): At the eve of the twelfth sept, the victim’s legs will likely have been affected along with the rest of the body, and will numb, and soon go limp, making it impossible to walk. If this is not treated immediately, the damage may be permanent. Couple this with their decline in overall health, the victim is considered bedridden.
  • Eighteenth Sept (18 OOC days): In the end, after the infection has spread through the body from the lungs and towards the brain. Seizures will likely take the victim’s life, should they not suffocate from the inability to breathe first.
