Those who Shriveled
History
Goblins were a failure of a Goddess's imagination. Scholars record the earliest Goblins appearing alongside the Orcs, and quickly being cast out from their creed. Goblins were a failure, Sterk was no Goddess of life, and as she created and molded it, she found quickly she did not know the way, she was not Arvora. Her creation malformed, their ears becoming big along with their heads and noses and their limbs small and useless for combat. It was with this that Sterk made it so they could no longer breed with the Orc, to tamper with her favored creations. It was from this that Goblins came to form their own path. Though there are those who still cling to combat, many others tinker or scavenge. It is common for them to live on the fringes or coincide in Orcish clans, set to their own purposes and jobs within.
Physical Description
Goblins are usually short and lanky creatures with exaggerated features. Having large ears, noses, and gnarled pointy teeth, they are hardly the most beautiful of sights. However despite this, these features come to their advantage in other ways, giving them teeth which can gnaw and tear flesh, eyes which can more easily see in the dark. Their small figures are rather adaptable to which climate they find themselves in. For example, should the climate be colder, a Goblin with thicker and more hair would be entirely common, while the goblins of the desert may possesses none at all. They are often seen as being hunchbacked with gangly limbs.
Goblins are most commonly a scavenging people, living on the scraps of Orcs or in large cities. Because of this, their clothes represent their demeanor, often being cobbled together and refitted to their shot heights. They fit loosely on their person and often do little in the way of protection or style. Goblins in this way little care for appearance, but rather utility.
- Common Height:
- Male: 4'2" - 4'11"
- Female: 3'11" - 4'9"
- Common Build: Ectomorph, Endomorph
- Common Eyes: Brown, Green, Red, Black, Yellow
- Common Hair: Black, Brown, Grey, White
- Common Skin Tone: Green, Terracotta, White
Culture
Goblins are thin creatures, the rejected of Sterk. Though they maintain close relations with the Orcs, whom they often can live besides symbiotically, they find themselves distanced from their patron Goddess mostly. While some still cling to her worship, it is common practice that these ugly creatures favor Domm, who not only promotes their creativity and scavenging, but also gives them the necessary skill to inhabit the underground. The Goblins tend to dwell in the cracks and crevices in tunnels and caves, where they dredge up ores and other valuables, as well as steal from other cave dwellers. This is why they are in conflict with their rivals the Dwarves, who loathe the thieving runts.
Goblin society is rather complex and their culture and tradition is by no means centralized, like that of the Orcs, though they do hold some tradition and similarities from group to group. One thing surprising about the creatures is their adaptability to the climates they inhabit. Goblins which inhabit colder climates tend to have more hair than those who inhabit desert areas, their skin tones more commonly matching their habitat [but not always]. From this, their type of lodging generally varies. They do have a tendency to remain underground, and from this they live in the crevices with a large sum of goods which they pile. Some Goblins hoard treasures within their homes with little reason other than that they enjoy the appearance. Tools which Goblins used tend to be rather rugged, and although often well-cared for, are dilapidated and worn from use. Goblins are Omnivores, though their diet demands much larger portions of meat than it does greens. They have little qualms with eating meat raw. Rats comprise a large portion of their cave dwelling diet, which they eat whole. It is rare to see a Goblin cook as they tend to try and stay away from the flames.
Their religion, though in patronage to Sterk or Domm most commonly is varied, too much to say that something is entirely centralized. Some even pay homage to the first Orc, Anghus, but this too is a rare find.
Mechanics
- Lifespan: 35 years old on average.
- Goblins have high dexterity, especially accurate movement in their hands and feet. This is useful for not only climbing, but the most minute of tinkering which they seem to hold a strong fondness for.
- Goblins have a thick skin, which is often flaky and almost scale-like to the touch. This helps them with being resistant to heat from fires and other such issues.
- Their cave dwelling instincts not only provide them with better low-light vision, but Goblins are also immune to all poison.
- Goblins may unhinge their jaw to swallow larger sized objects than most. Goblin's have another sack within them. They can swallow items, and divert them to this sack, which is used to store items within and stretches the Goblin in raids. From this though, the ooze which is necessary to not corrode materials is fairly flammable.
