Those Who Indulged

History

From the decent of the fey came one more race, the simple satyr. Scholars have come to speculate how such a race of depravity and nonsense be born from one so high and serene, but much of that is explained in the legend of their fall from grace from the realms of Arvora and the Fey Wilds.

As the Fey were thrust from their ancestral home and into the planes of Aversia, some still sought to fulfill their selfish pleasures and desires, rather than seek redemption from the gods' above. They continued to indulge in their wild and almost occult like parties, having notoriously loud music and games, which is said that the gods themselves heard. It was none other than the deity Oklamat, the god of such wiles who heard most of all. Descending into the realm, disguised as one of their creed, he decided to host a game of his own, a gamble. Drawing simple cards form his sleeve, he offered them- telling the simple fey that the cards could grant great power and fortune to allow them to dabble in such ecstasy. The male fey confidently strode forwards, going to snatch the card with his hand and grin. When he flipped the card, his eyes widened with horror, and word spread that he would become half of his last meal.

When the man peered down to his waist, he saw none other than the furred legs of the satyr, adorned with hooves. A great pang formed in his head, and horns sprouted forth. The other fey were said to have watched in awe and horror, as they too had become touched by this. It seemed over time, they became no more than Oklamat's beasts, the more they had pleasured themselves, the more they turned into the goat. Eventually this transformation ceased over the generation, and the first offspring of the Satyr tribe were born.

Physical Description

The Satyr are half-man, half-elven abominations of the god Oklamat, who had tampered their form to his wills of travel, indulgence, and wealth. The often stereo-typically greedy satyr are tribal in nature. Despite this, they seem to have a fondness for objects of great wealth, and thus can usually be seen with piercings of the nose, brow, ear, or naval, in which gold, silver, or bone implements are usually inserted. For a tribal society, they often put great emphasis on their appearance, thus making their garb the finest accumulation of a broad spectrum of cultures and colors, the brighter of such providing more pride to the satyr. The body of the satyr is rather varying, though similarities they bare are horns sprouting from their angular and sharp-featured faces. Their eyes are usually the shape of almonds, and have many of the same colors in which they are found in nature with. One of the few resemblances they share with their former form is that their ears remain pointed like that of their fey ancestry, rather than that of a goat. Their hair is usually curly, wild and untamed, and notably covers their hooved legs. Their legs are also digitigrade and covered in fur like that of a goat. Due to their vastly genetic differences however, Satyr are only able to breed with their own kind.

  • Common Height:
    • Male: 5'5" - 5'11"
    • Female: 5'3" - 5'9"
  • Common Build: Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph
  • Common Eyes: Green, Gold, Brown, Blue, Black
  • Common Hair/Fur: Brown, White, Black, Grey
  • Common Skin Tone: Brown, White, Tanned

Culture

Despite the indoctrination by the gambling god of Oklamat, the Satyr continue to this day to sport their wants, and thus hold some of the largest and wildest parties in all of the land. Satyrs are best known for these parties and their greed by the other races. Their settlements are usually isolated in vast forests or generally away from other societies, in places they call 'Groves' or 'Sanctuaries'. In these spaces, the Satyr remain in relative peace and quiet from the other races. Their settlements are commonly adorned in bright colors, and are semi-nomadic in nature, travelling to rumored places of great wealth or treasure.

For Satyr, it is common for them to practice pilgrimage in the name of the god Oklamat, attending great parties, and throwing great feasts in the deity's name. In the shadow of his glory, Arvora is also worshiped by the more traditional and deep rooted satyr. Even those who follow Oklamat, a deep respect and symbiotic relation is held with nature itself, the land robbed of no resource to the point where it might run dry, and food is managed rather carefully to ensure shortage does not occur. Satyrs have place a heavy emphasis on do right by others, and good luck and fortune will come upon them. It is with this that the Satyr value family and neighbors above all else.

Satyr speak a common tongue with the elves, and the shared elven language. They most commonly coincide along the lives of Forest Elves, though it is not too uncommon for them to be around other races. Despite being reclusive, they are seen as one of the most accepting races, and so long as their traditions and customs are respected, so too is the person. The types of parties that are held vary widely from tribe to tribe, and have little means of standardization. Tribes even celebrate different dates for the same events, such as the creation of the first Satyr, Bethezael. This causes great confusion for many historians, but a good laugh for the Satyr who watch them try and catalog their histories. Despite speaking the elven tongue, it is rare for them to commit anything to paper. Language is seen as a living, breathing thing, and thus is is of great disrespect to pass history and legend down on paper, rather than word of mouth.

Mechanics

  • Lifespan: 165 years old on average.
  • Satyrs are able to drink to a much higher capacity than all other races, able to hold alcohol and other vanities very well.
  • Satyr hooves and legs allow them to climb mountain passes and rocky terrain much better, though they have great difficulty swimming.
  • Satyr horns are made of a strong bone material, extending from their heads in various patterns and sizes. These horns are extremely durable, used for ramming and piercing others. Their skulls are also made thicker to compensate for the weight and potential damages.
  • Satyrs have a heightened sense of smell, sight, and taste, and are also immune to plant-based poisons.
  • Satyrs are more agile than elves, but have weaker upper arm strength. This is made up in their leg strength however which is exemplary.
