Description

The weeping of this foliage is often a sign that one has wandered into areas ravaged by the past, filled with regret and sorrow. The Afterlife’s Foliage is only found in areas where death is the first thing that comes to mind, accidental or not as the wood feeds off of the restless spirits remaining around the area. This willow like tree is often heralded by the weeping of restless spirits in the distance, an ominous fog permanently covering the greyed soil, and the visible mingling of the incorporeal in the mortal realm. Ghosts become increasingly material the closer they are to this wood, guarding it as if it was their eternal duty. Should one such tree have enough time to mature and grow it will take on necromantic properties itself, making it possible to see other undead types as the warden of this foliage. The Afterlife’s Foliage main attribute is as such, the connection between life and death, allowing for the wood itself to interact with the dead and be dead itself. Should one cut the tree down they will find a ghostly afterimage take its place, which will require special methods to take care of.

Development

This Tree does not obey most common laws of growth, shrouding the area its sapling is found in with an unnatural fog that nurtures with the dead and grows along with the tree itself. The Afterlife’s Foliage will only ever grow when death is abundantly present, thus harvesting a sapling in normal ways is near impossible, unless one is willing to take darker paths for their botanical needs. However it still does bloom on every full moon, an ethereal fruit growing for just that short duration before it falls and wilts away in the morning sun.

Properties

  • Afterlife’s Foliage often comes with some sort of undead warden, making their location a spot of interest for any necromantic entity, or those combating such profane methods.
  • Only during a full moon can one gather the fruit of this tree, should they possess the means to interact with the ethereal and ghostly apparitions of this realm and somehow contain it without letting it escape.

Material Properties

  • This Arbor naturally attracts the undead, able to interact with any undead even, but without any additional side effects like magic or anti-profane materials would. If the tree is alive then undead of any subtype will feel a subconscious urge to approach it.
  • Once cut down one may attempt to seize the Afterlife’s Foliage ghostly wood, which can only be harvested with materials that interact with those that have passed already. This wood is a ghostly blue and emanates wispy fog, however this material allows one to effectively create a semi-incorporeal material which can interact with both living and nonliving creatures.

Alchemical Properties

  • The fruit from the Afterlife’s Foliage may be consumed to temporarily see the incorporeal. It can be refined to the point where it allows one to temporarily become incorporeal themselves. This allows the consumer to ignore most material things, floating through the ground or walls for up to 8 turns, as well as ignoring physical attacks unless done by materials able to interact with such. Neither can those under this effect interact with the material world though, as they are effectively invisible and unable to touch things.
    • Should the effect run out while someone is in the ground or a wall or other such circumstances, they will be crushed and die.
  • Sap from this Tree naturally attracts incorporeal undead, luring them in from around fifty meters away. Those under this effect become passive, flocking around the sap and only attacking should someone come between them and the sap as well as show intent to harm or bother them.
