Description
The Leafthin is an extremely tall tree with large palm like leaves, which stretch out from its main trunk to catch rain and sunlight. These trees can stand at an astounding height of over 10 meters (30feet). The fibrous leaves being a deep emerald green while the bark usually holding a moldy light green or brown in color. The leafthin contains strange properties which are highly valued among cultures in harsh territories of the realm. Due to the chemical process of food creation within the giant leaves of the plant, even after being removed the leaves of these trees if turned into bowls or mesh will help in the purification of water, but more often than not, what fascinates collectors of this tree more is the incredibly breathable fabric that can be made from its leaf stalks.
Location
Due to the high need of water and sunlight from these trees, they can only be found in wet humid atmospheres, most commonly seen within jungles or tropical forests. Since they have such a high need for water collection to stay healthy, places without an almost weekly supply of rain would be impossible for them to grow. In these areas of their thriving state however, they can be found quite commonly, seen by their giant leaves to be the main point of discovery.
Development
In the early years of development, this tree will remain rather small, sprouting from a seed pod and proceeding to grow as a sapling until it reaches maturity after about 5 years under normal conditions. The large leaves of this plant will not reach their full size until the tree reaches maturity, to help prevent the stalk of the plant from becoming weighed down and collapsing. This tree if left alive and uncut will stay upright for more than fifty years before collapsing to the forest floor, where it will decay like any normal plant. Its leaves can be taken and regrown without harming the tree if done on a normal time span, making it almost perfect for cultivation purposes.
Material Properties
- These trees can be cultivated in the right environment, making them ideal for harvesting purposes.
- The leaves of this plant are capable of aiding in the purification of water through straining or filtering methods, allowing lower civilizations or those in dense forests to thrive, often being a favorite find of Dryads or Sinnehliv.
- The stalks which hold the leaves together may be broken apart into silk like fibers, which can be woven into extremely breathable fabric, this weave being perfect for those in places of heavy moisture or the coast. Due to the nature of the silk, they can remain light in water, and will dry easy, allowing them to be used in very dry or wet places for those wishing comfort.
Alchemical Properties
- The leaves of this plant can be used for filtering or straining purposes for allowing pure substances for alchemy.
- The bark may be burned and crushed, turning into a tar like material for bonding purposes, working almost like glue.
