Sprites of the Trees

Application Only

Nature spirits were created by Arvora as one of the earliest life forms in the Fey Wilds. Although they are not as renowned as their Fey cousins, Pixies have a lot in common with them anatomically. They were modeled to be the earliest versions of Fey, later evolved and developed into the much larger present day Fey. Similarly to Fey, Pixies originated in the Fey Wilds, and they too were later introduced to the mortal realm.

There are two types of Sprites that currently exist in Aversia: Pixies and Gremlins. Pixies were the first types of Sprites to be created and are somewhat immature. Being one of Arvora's earliest creations, they were made to be tiny and childlike, but eventually became more unruly and wild over time. Pixie society did not develop much beyond their initial creation.

Physical Description

Pixies are the Sprites of the trees. They are somewhat animalistic looking with wings ranging from a dragonfly appearance to transparent butterfly-like wings. Their bodies are colored shades of dull browns, murky green, and sometimes gray, typically blending in well with whatever environment they reside in. They have two large eyes that are completely one color, usually dark brown, black, and in some cases, dark green. Their bodies are completely hairless but their flesh is thick, keeping them warm even during colder seasons. They don’t wear any clothing and their bodies typically appear genderless. The skin of their fingers hardens and comes to a sharp point at the tips, forming claws capable of latching onto tree bark or burrowing holes in wood with ease. Their bodies are fairly well toned, allowing them to move very quickly. The very small stature of a Pixie makes it possible for them to crawl inside a person's head through their ear.

  • Common Height: 2 inches tall
  • Common Build: Ectomorph, Mesomorph
  • Common Eyes: Dark Brown, Black
  • Common Hair: N/A
  • Common Skin Tone: Dull Browns, Murky Greens

Culture

Pixies are well known for being tricksters and are considered to be a nuisance by most who are so unfortunate as to come across a horde of them. These creatures are native to forests, but will watch and follow anyone who disturbs their homeland with unwanted presence. There have been reports of Pixies attacking people at night in their own homes, upset about the disruptions caused to forest land.

Some Pixies elect to remain in packs similarly to wolves, while others may be rejected or simply prefer a more solitary lifestyle. Even Pixies who do live in packs scarcely communicate with one another, the creatures being rather socially incompetent as a whole. The primary purpose of pack-life is to work together in assisted casting of magic.

These creatures travel constantly in search of entertainment, finding amusement in causing chaos through whatever means and spells they can come up with. As a result, Pixies may often unintentionally cause harm to others, oblivious to the effects their actions have on other creatures due to their childish and self-centered nature.

Although Pixies have very low maturity and social capacities, they are considered to be intelligent sentient beings with regards to knowledge of magic, magical abilities, and strategy in tricking and playing pranks on other lifeforms. Such intelligence has primarily been developed through Pixies observing people casting spells or causing conflict with one another. Pixies have very good memories and can easily replicate spells they witness people casting. Their magical nature also plays a role in their dietary needs. The only “foods” Pixies have been known to consume are liquid mana and Arcamite.

Mechanics

  • Lifespan: 50 years old on average.
  • Pixies have been known to branch into all disciplines of magic, but almost all of them possess invisibility, sound, illusion, and telekinesis spells they cast fairly often.
  • Illusions created by Pixies cannot be identified by any normal means.
    • An exception to this is when Pixies attempt to create illusions of complex sentient beings. Due to Pixie’s limited social abilities, illusions they create of people are uncanny in the sense that they don’t normally talk, or the things they do say won’t make any sense.
  • Pixies are able to cast more powerful spells when casting in groups than when casting alone.
  • Pixie wings sprinkle Pixie dust when they fly. If enough Pixie dust is collected, a skilled master alchemist can purify the dust into a potion that grants temporary flight. (Requires alchemy invention application).
